i was kinda feelin myself today, lol! this is my church fit that i put together… still on the way to getting a consistent style, but this is somethin i feel like worked..

So I’m at the barnes and noble cafe, working on my final review for my class. It’s pretty early.. About 8:45 so there aren’t that many people in the cafe. There is a girl though.. A young woman.. She seemed to be doodling or drawing something at her table in the center of the cafe, glancing around ever so often at the people sharing her space at the time. We share glance for a sec, but that’s all.

I get up to continue a call that I was on amidst the bookshelves, and come back later to see her still sitting there, this time with her back to me. She had previously changed positions a number of times.. After a minute or two, she came over and asked if she could draw me!

As a photographer, an artist, and a lover of people, I quickly said yes, to her apparent pleasure, and she sat down to my right and began to sketch my profile!

It felt slightly weird, as I’ve never been asked this before, but it was interesting as she gave me no direction. She just sat and in spite of my movements, smiling, glances, she was still able to produce an amazing likeness if me in the spam of about 30 minutes! I could see her peering above and below the bars that separated us in the cafe, sketching, erasing, gazing shading.. Intense in her craft..

As she completed, she handed me the sketch and made her way back to her table! A lady approached me that I know that kept me from properly thanking her for the sketch, and possibly discussing it with her as well. At first glance though, in spite if the interruption, I was stunned! And continue to be stunned by how accurate she was able to capture the unique features that make up my profile, AND the fairly intense gaze I had as I plowed away organizing my review.

I was thrown though, as a approached her, to discuss the image, she seemed to fairly distant, aloof and unapproachable.. As if this half an hour of time with my face was of little value to her, both as a person and an artist. To talk with your muse, i would assume might be an interest of hers. I also assumed that when she found out I was a photographer that would make a way for conversation as well..!

Alas, it did not, and our conversation was short.

I’m not sure if I ever see her again, what will occur, it seems as though, I was just another face in her morning routine, as she says she does this regularly around town!

I, still, am appreciative and in awe of the skill us humans have been gifted with to create in such ways, and am thankful to her for showing me myself.
